ECIP Super User: Baha Sadduk

Baha Sadduk is an ECIP Super User with a passion for food safety, building effective systems and partnering with top-tier suppliers in the produce industry. Having guided suppliers to achieve 2026 Leadership Circle recognition, Baha helps organizations turn their ECIP engagement scores into a real business advantage. Read on to discover how Baha envisions the role of consultants in empowering suppliers’ engagement with ECIP.

My passion for food safety and traceability began early in my grocery retail career, where I saw firsthand how much product integrity and customer trust depend on strong traceability systems. Over the years, working across agriculture, food manufacturing, and supply chain operations, that passion evolved into a professional focus — helping organizations strengthen their food safety programs, streamline compliance, and build transparent systems from field to fork.

While food safety and traceability have always been at the forefront of my work, I’ve come to see that they cannot be fully achieved without also prioritizing social responsibility. Supporting people and ensuring ethical practices go hand in hand with producing safe, high-quality food.

When I had the opportunity to collaborate with clients like Coastline Family Farms, it reignited my commitment to not only advance food safety systems but also to champion the principles of ECIP.

My role as an external consultant is to serve as a facilitator and coach, not a substitute for the supplier’s internal ownership. I approach ECIP with the same mindset I use for food safety and traceability, building systems that are sustainable and led by the people who manage them day to day.

I start by understanding the supplier’s existing structure, culture and resources. From there, I focus on knowledge transfer, ensuring internal teams understand the “why” behind each management system in the ECIP LAB Assessment and how it connects to their current operations and systems. This empowers them to take responsibility for their program.

I also help create tools, such as checklists, progress trackers or training materials, that make it easier for teams to manage ECIP independently.

One example that stands out is my work with Coastline, who recently achieved 2026 Leadership Circle status. Supporting their ECIP journey was especially rewarding, not only because of the Leadership Circle recognition itself, but because of how it strengthened their relationships with key retail partners who also participate in ECIP.

Through a collaborative approach, we focused on aligning existing practices and company culture with the ECIP framework, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to ethical, transparent and people-first operations. This process not only validated the work Coastline was already doing but also helped them communicate that commitment more effectively to their customers.

Seeing Coastline recognized at the Leadership Circle event this year underscored how ECIP participation can strengthen partnerships and elevate industry collaboration through shared accountability, integrity and respect.

Yes, absolutely. Across the industry, we’re seeing a growing trend where major customers are beginning to integrate social responsibility criteria into their compliance frameworks. ECIP provides a proactive pathway for suppliers to align with these evolving expectations.

For many of my clients, ECIP has served as a framework for early alignment. By engaging with ECIP early, they’re better prepared for upcoming customer expectations.

This alignment has given suppliers a stronger foundation during certification audits and customer reviews, not only meeting requirements, but demonstrating a culture of integrity that goes beyond compliance.

As more suppliers engage with ECIP, I believe the role of consultants will continue to evolve from simply providing program support to becoming partners in building sustainable, self-sufficient systems.

Many growers and suppliers cannot justify the cost of a full-time social responsibility or compliance specialist. In these cases, consultants provide a cost-effective and scalable alternative, helping organizations establish and implement programs like ECIP without adding long-term overhead.

Our role is to help build frameworks, train internal teams, and develop tools that allow suppliers to manage and sustain their own ECIP progress confidently. By doing so, consultants ensure that even smaller or resource-limited operations can meaningfully participate and demonstrate their commitment to ethical and responsible practices.
